Biography

Gregory was born in January 18, 1825, in Nelson County, Kentucky. He was the son of Robert Rhodes and Elizabeth Cissell.

He was married on May 8, 1841 at St. Lawrence in Daviess County to Margaret Minerva Church, the daughter of Thomas Fendal Church and Rachel Ann Wedding.^[1] This, of course, meant that he married his step-sister.

The couple set up housekeeping in Ohio County, Kentucky, later moving their family to neighboring Daviess County. It was in Daviess County in July, 1863, that Gregory registered for the Civil War draft.^[2]

He died on April 1, 1906 in Daviess County, Kentucky

1850 - United States Federal Census - In 1850, Gregory Rhodes, 27, was living in District 2 of Ohio County, Kentucky, with his wife Margaret M. Rhodes, 23. Also in the family were their children Sarah Rhodes, 3, and William F. Rhodes, 1. Gregory was a farmer.^[3]

1860 - United States Federal Census - In the 1860 census, Gregory Roads, 38, and his wife, Margarett M. Roads, 34, are living in Ellis, Ohio County, Kentucky, where he continued to farm Their growing family includes Sarah A. Roads, 13; William Roads, 11; Charles R. Roads, 9; Rachel T. Roads, 7; Romalda Roads, 5; Syrilda J. Roads, 4 and Sophrona Roads, six months.^[4]

July 1863 - Draft Registration - Registered for the Civil War draft in Daviess County, KY.

1870 - United States Federal Census - In 1870, Gregory Rhodes, 45, and Manervia Rhodes, 40, were living in Boston, Daviess County, Kentucky. Living with them were their children Rachael Rhodes, 18; Charles Rhodes, 16; Sarilda Rhodes, 14, and Mathien Rhodes, 12. Gregory is farming.^[5]

1880 - United States Federal Census - In 1880, Gregory Rhodes, 57, is living in Vanovers, Daviess County, Kentucky, with his wife Margret Rhodes, 51, and their son Cypron, 11. Gregory is farming.^[6]

April 1, 1906 - Death - Daviess County, Kentucky.
