Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh (formerly the Countess of Wessex), is the wife of Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh. She was born in Oxford on 20 January 1965.

The couple were married on 19 June 1999, at St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. Just before they married, Prince Edward was given the title Earl of Wessex. (This made Sophie "Countess of Wessex" after their marriage.) The couple have two children.
King Charles III conferred the title of Duke of Edinburgh upon Edward on 10 March 2023, the occasion of his 59th birthday. Sophie became Duchess of Edinburgh. [1] Edward's title of Earl of Wessex passed to their son James, Viscount Severn.
The couple's official residence is Buckingham Palace, London, while they have a country house at Bagshot Park in Surrey.
