According to marriage records he was b 1814 at Barkhampsted m. Mary Ann Hack of Granby on Nov 16, 1842.The 1850 census suggests he was born in 1820.
There is some evidence to suggest that the surname may appear as Royce in some records. Donald Lines Jacobus, Families of Ancient New Haven, 1981. but I can't make a connection.
