John Rice was born about 1752 in Hanover County, British Colony of Virginia. He married Mary Finney in 1778. They removed for a while to Suenandoah Valley but removed to Rockingham where he died in 1804.[1]
John Rice was a member of the First Court of Lunenburg, Virginia. An application for NSSAR membership states John Rice enlisted in the Revolutionary Army early in the war and served until its close. He was made Captain on 10 Nov 1780.
Capt. John Rice of Rockingham County, Virginia, son of William and Sarah Rice, was born in Culpepper [sic] County, 1752, and died in Rockingham County, 1804. (Will Probated April 1804). He married in 1778, Mary Finney, born in Accomac [sic] County, ..."
In 1789, John Rice owned 861 acres of land in Rockingham County, Va., and was still an officer in the 1st. Military Company. (see "History of Rockingham County, Va. by Wayland, p. 449.)[2]
John's will was admitted to probate in 1804.
