She was born in Joyfield Township on Jan. 22, 1919, the daughter of James and Ella (Gorivan) Rice. She graduated from Benzonia High School in 1936 and from the Benzie County Normal School, which was a one-year school for teachers, in 1937.
On Oct. 11, 1941, she married Albert (Pete) Orr. Several years later Margaret graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science degree.

An important part of Margaret's life was her work in the church and community. She was the church organist for several years at the Congregational Church of Benzonia, where she started the youth choirs. She was the choir director for the Honor Congregational Church and helped with the church schools in both locations.
Margaret was the chairman of the first Blueberry Festival for the Maples facilities. In her retirement she was a member of the Women's Association and became involved with their activities.
Margaret was always busy working in the garden, canning produce or golfing. She loved to entertain family and friends. Margaret's family was very important to her.
