Biography

U.S. Southern Colonies Project logo
John Rice was a Virginia colonist.
Flag of Virginia
John Rice lived in Virginia.

He is referred to as John Rice Jr in Hanover when he sold land and his father lived nearby. He is referred to as John Rice Sr in Caswell County NC where his father did not live and he did have an adult son John.

This John was born around 1720/1721. His oldest daughter Francis Rice Gooch's oldest son David Gooch was born 11 Apr 1763 making him born in 1728 pretty unrealistic.

He was not the John Rice born 23 February 1728 Middlesex County, VA. The Middlesex Rices were a totally different family and lived 3 counties to the east of John Rice of northwest Hanover and Louisa counties VA. See the discussion in this father's profile John Rice Sr under the heading "Middlesex Rices and Birth of son John".

His mother's maiden name is uncertain. See his father's profile for details.

He passed away after 14 November 1796 (date will was written) in Caswell County, North Carolina.

In Louisa Co VA John Jr jointly sells land with his wife Lettisha Estes' father Richard Estes. This was a half of a Hanover Land Patent originally solely owned by Richard. Presumably he gifted some of it to John as a marriage gift. Richard lived next to John's father in VA and he lived near John in Caswell Co NC. on Countyline Creek.

His will lists lists Anthony Thompson & Mary Thompson as benifiaries. He was their guardian. It is unknown if they were related in any way.
