Biography

Mary Rice was born about 1739. Mary Rice is named as spouse of Paul Hazeltine in the DAR Patriot Index.^[1]

May have married Timothy Holbrook after divorce from Paul Hazeltine/Hazelton. They divorced in 1787 because Mary took up residence with Timothy Holbrook. She and Timothy Holbrook were sentenced for adultery. Paul filed for divorce after Mary did not return home.They were both sentenced to 25 "stripes". From court records:

"Mary, his present wife for a considerable time hath been so un mindful of her duty to God and to your Petitioner her present husband as wholly to desart (sic) from his Bed and Board and hath lately been often guilty of the sin of adultry with one Timothy Holbrook."^[2]
