Luke moved to the town of Shrewsbury, occupying the farm previously improved by his brother, Daniel Rice. In the following years he was the town assessor for six years, selectman for six years; and town treasurer for five years.
He died on July 04, 1754 in Shrewsbury, Worcester, Massachusetts.
He left a will on 20 April 1754 at Shrewsbury, MA, proved 4 July 1754. The will mentions wife Rachel; daughters Dinah, wife of Abraham Eager, Rachel, wife of Jonas Stone, Abigail, wife of Benjamin Maynard, Priscilla, wife of Jotham Howe, Sarah, wife of Nathaniel Whittemore; granddaughters Katherine and Sarah Baker, "children of my late daughter Azubah Baker," deceased. Wife Rachel and son Hezekiah, Executors.
Luke Rice is buried at the Mountain View Cemetery in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts.[5]
