The marriage of Edward Smith and Sarah Rice is recorded in the Douglas Register[1]

Revolutionary War

Captain Edward Smith, born 1740 in Virginia, died Spartanburg District, South Carolina, at 15 August 1815 , and his wife Sally Rice, born 1740 in Goochland, Virginia, died Spartanburg District, South Carolina at 1821, married 03 December 1762 in Albemarle, Virginia, are honored by the Daughters of the American Revolution for service: 1) ALSO SECOND LIEUTENANT, CAPT JOSIAH LEAK, GOOCHLAND CO MILITIA. Their son Holman Smith, born at 1782 in South Carolina, died Spartanburg District, South Carolina on 28 May 1855, and his wife Elizabeth. died Spartanburg District, South Carolina after 1860.[2]

On Nov 4, 1782, in Goochland, Virginia, she married Reuben Smith, born 15 August 1761[5][6] (Note: Elizabeth's middle name, Rice, is listed in Private Reuben Smith's DAR Record; it is consistent with her mother's maiden name)
  3. Sally Smith, christened 6 Dec 1767[7] Sarah (Smith) Lipscomb, born 04 November 1767, died 20 March 1860, married December 18, 1783 to John Lipscomb, born 31 October 1763, died 04 November 1767[8]
  4. Holman Smith, born @1782 in South Carolina, died Spartanburg District, South Carolina on 28 May 1855. He married Elizabeth. died Spartanburg District, South Carolina after 1860.[9]#Holman Smith died 28 May 1855 in Spartanburg District, South Carolina[10]
