Disputed Origins
Source that follows reports no such daughter "Alice Rich" born to Richard Rich and Elizabeth Jenks, nor does the source report any daughter of these parents married into a White family.

Considering the number of known illegitimate children of Richard Rich - it might be best to not change Alice's name to Unknown (another merge) - just leave the note in her free-space about the dispute. amb 2014/June/16

Hello PMs - the England Project would like to manage this profile with you, as there has been another proposal recently to reconnect her as an illegitimate daughter of Richard Rich. Unfortunately this is a fiction which is widespread on Internet trees, so the EP would add PPP to keep her parents as unknown. I will send a Trusted List from the EP account. If you would accept this, the EP will do the rest.
Many thanks, Jo England Project Managed Profiles Team Coordinator
Wright-3394 and Rich-467 appear to represent the same person because: These profiles both represent the wife of Robert White. The maiden name of his wife is Unknown but it has been suggested to leave it as Rich (see notations on profile Rich-467). Please merge and leave the wife set to LNAB Rich pending further discussion with England Project.
Wright-10339 and Rich-467 are not ready to be merged because: These two profiles are for the same person, however, the LNAB is disputed and not verified. These two are not ready to be merged.
Wright-10339 and Rich-467 appear to represent the same person because: These are duplicated profiles. The last name needs to be determined. Please merge.
As a profile Style review person: I shortened the acknowledgements section, and gave the profile a source (maybe not a great source), but probably from where the erroneous info came. I think I might add a do not reconnect note.
It looks good to me, you can remove the style review tag, or wait until someone else on the team takes a look.
John, I like your idea, of keeping the false Alice so that people in search will find a profile and not create another one. Then marry him to an Alice Unknown, with appropriate notes.
It seems illogical -- and contrary to the spirit of WikiTree -- to keep blatantly false "information" instead of acknowledging that her surname is unknown. I'd like to suggest the following: keep the existing profile of the IMAGINARY Alice Rich, with a full explanation and embedded links in the text to her false "parents" and false "husband," and create a new Alice "Unknown" profile as the wife of Robert White.
I did sever the relationship to the suspect parents and left a note in the free-space of all three profiles involved. To change the LNAB (another merge) would place this profile in the unknown LNAB - which would open up the likelihood of another Alice Rich being created by another Wikitree'er at a later date, which would mean another merge.
My personal preference is keeping a suspect name rather than adding a profile to the long list of Unknown's already in existence on Wikitree (since joining Wikitree, I have noted a person will create another profile instead of searching through the 249880 of LNAB Special:Surname&sUNKNOWN&order=name Unknown profiles for an existing Unknown) - but I will go with the majority of current managers on the decision for LNAB.
The maiden name of many an early English bride is unknown. We don't yet know where Robert White and Alice ____ married because the historical discovery hasn't been made.
She is far, far more likely Alice ____ because of a lack of historical discovery than that she was Alice Rich due to an otherwise undocumented illegitimacy.
Considering the number of known illegitimate children of http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Rich-346 - it might be best to not change Alice's name to Unknown - just leave the note in her free-space about the dispute.
By what stretch of the imagination could Lord Richard Rich, for many years one of the most powerful men in the kingdom, with family roots in Hertford and Essex, be the father-in-law of a common farmer in Somerset?

I can't get my arms around the claim. Sorry.
