Biography

Marguerite Richard was born about 1692, probably in Port-Royal, Acadia. Her parents were Alexandre Richard and Isabelle Petitpas. She was age 6 on the 1698 census of Port Royal.

She married Jean Dupuis, son of Martin Dupuis and Marie Landry, 1 Aug 1713 at Port Royal. Witnesses were Pierre Richard, who signed with the groom, Rene Richard, Francois Savoye and Jean Dupuis.[1][2]

The 1714 census of River of Habitants listed Jean with a wife.

On 5 September 1755, Jean was imprisoned along with hundreds of other Acadian men at the St. Charles des Mines church in Grand-Pré. On a list of prisoners, he was said to live in the village des Dupuis at Rivière-aux-Canards. He was required to prepare for deportation within 30 days. [3][4]

In 1755, Jean and Marguerite were possibly deported to Connecticut aboard the Dove. They both died between 1755 and 1763. [4]

"Most of their children living in this village (Village des Dupuis, Rivière-aux-Canards) were deported to Connecticut, including those who were already married like Fabien, Élizabeth, Cécile-Josephte and Jean-Baptiste, as well as the unmarried sons like Alexander and possibly Joseph. Their son Germain, married to a Landry, accompanied his wife and her family to Massachusetts." (Google Translation) [4]

DNA
The Mothers of Acadia Maternal DNA project is conducting ongoing research to verify their origins. In 2015, Stephen White reported that Marguerite's grandmother, Catherine Bugaret had an H1c3b haplogroup. It is not know how many of her descendants were tested to support this report. Lucie Leblanc Constantino reported four results with H haplogroup indicating European origins as well as maternal family trees here. Ongoing test results are also reported here showing, as of October 2019, four results with H haplogroup and three results with H1c3b haplogroup.
