Slave

Clara Elizabeth (Richardson) Blount (1846-1905)

Of his will and testament, we focus on Item 4 (p. 5) which serves as a directive to his slave daughter Clara's release. It adds other provisions and that she be assigned to a recognized non slave daughter Eliza Scott's estate but most significantly truly free and not held to servitude. In all our research this is the only document we have that sets forth the emancipation of a slave from a slave owner.
