Lydia Richardson was born in Woburn, Massachusetts, on December 26, 1705, the daughter of John Richardson and his second wife Lydia Pratt.[1][2]
She was probably the Lydia Richardson who married John Atwood by 1729. This connection is largely based on information contained in the record of a 1753 deed, which appears to identify Nathan Richardson as her brother, and therefore both as the likely children of John Richardson:[3][4]
March 8, 1753, Lydia Atwood, wife of John Atwood husbandman, of Woburn sell salt marsh in Medford, which Mr. Nathan Richardson bought of Jabez Brooks and sold to his sister Lydia Atwood.[4]
The Atwood family lived in Medford, Massachusetts, until about 1733, when they resided in Bradford, Massachusetts, and by 1738 were living in Woburn. Husband John Atwood was drowned in the Mystic River, near Woburn, in 1745. Children:[3]
Joshua Atwood, born 1735; married Esther Chamberlain.
Mary Atwood, born April 8, 1738.
Josiah Atwood, born April 4, 1740.
After her husband's death, Lydia married second, John Giles of Medford, in Woburn on November 25, 1756. John died in Woburn on January 20, 1761, aged 70.[3][6][7][8]
2nd Marriage Note: Francis Atwood initially wrote that after the death of John Atwood, she married Jasher Richardson, but this is an error that is recanted in a later correction, "John Atwood, 1704-1745, married Lydia Richardson, and it was she who married John Giles, rather than her daughter, Lydia Atwood, born 1723, who married Jasher Richardson, for the latter was born 1724."[3][9][10]
