Born Malpas, Cheshire, England; late 1866 to early 1867; christened 24 Jan 1867; son of John & Sarah Richardson

1891 Census, Clifton, Lancashire, England: Colliery Labourer. He and his wife are living with her family: Samuel Potts, 59, Police Pensioner; wife Harriet, 59, and Harry Potts, 14, Apprentice

1901 England Census: Religion (1901, Swinton, St. Peter, Lancashire): C of E

Married Emily Potts, 13 Oct 1890, Eccles, Lancashire.

Son William born 1891; Frank, 1895; John, 1898. A daughter, Harriet only lived from April to October of 1901. Another daughter, Florence born 1904.

1911 Census lists him has having a Fish & Chips business, Manchester, Lancashire, England

Immigrated 1910 per 1921 Census;

Emily and her children sailed from Liverpool aboard Canadian Pacific Liner ‘’The Virginian”. They arrived at Quebec City, 27 July 1912, then on to Toronto. In the Passenger Manifest, Emily gave her husband's occupation as "Stoker".

Sons Frank and John both served in the Canadian Army during WWI. John died of wounds 10 April 1916 in Belgium. Frank lost a leg but survived.

1921 Census gives immigration year as 1910[?], Stationary engineer; Presbyterian
