Biography

Mourning was born on August 29, 1794[1] in South Carolina[2][3] to Mathias Richardson[4][5] and Frances Clark.

She married Reverend Benjamin Tarrant[1][2][3][4] in Pendleton County, Anderson, South Carolina on 12/25/1815[6] or 12/26/1815[5], and they settled in Elyton, Jefferson Co., Alabama in 1819.[5]

Together they had 7 children:

  1. Anna Hewitt Tarrant
  2. Lydia Tarrant
  3. Mary Amoray Joyner Tarrant
  4. Julia Tarrant
  5. Mahala Barton Tarrant
  6. Andrew Tarrant
  7. Elizabeth Tarrant

They lived out their lives in Jefferson County, where Benjamin served the community as a Methodist clergyman.[7][8][2][3][9]

Mourning died in September 1866 and is buried in the Tarrant Family Cemetery in Tarrant City, Alabama.[1]
