Biography

This profile is part of the Richardson Name Study.

Ryan was born on 14 May 1800 in Estill, Kentucky, United States. He was the son of John H Richardson and Mary (Ryan) Richardson.[1][2]

Ryan married Jemima Kelley on 3 May 1820 in Estill, Kentucky.[3][4] They had seven known children.

  1. Aaron Richardson (1820–1848)

  3. Dudley Richardson (1823–1904)
  4. John S Richardson (1828–1904)
  5. Samuel Richardson (1828–1878)
  6. William Richardson (1829–1878)[5]

In the 1830 census Ryan (age 30) was living in Estill, Kentucky, United States.[6] Ryan and his brothers, Aaron and Benjamin, were mentioned in the Estill County court records in December of 1834, stating that one of them need be appointed as viewer for a road between the property of (their father) John Richardson and Asa Parks.[7] This road was later approved by John H. Richardson and Asa Parks, and Samuel Kelly was ordered to oversee the work needed to complete it.[8] In the January 1835 session, Ryan was appointed a commission to take a list of all taxable property "on the South side of Kenty river and South of the middle fork for the present year."[9] In January of 1839 Ryan paid his bond as he was appointed a Constable in Estill County.[10]

In the 1840 census Ryan (age 40) was living in Estill County, Kentucky, United States.[11] He was in the "40 thru 49" age range, as was his wife.[11] They had seven (presumed) children in the home, all under the age of twenty.[11]

In the 1850 census Ryan (age 50) was living in Estill County, Kentucky.[5] This was the first census record to list family members in the household. Jemima was said to be forty-nine years old.[5] Elizabeth (17) and William (15) were the only children living with them.[5] William's occupation was listed as a farmer.[5]

In the 1860 census Ryan (age 60) was living in Estill County, Kentucky.[12] His wife Jemima was listed as sixty years old also.[12] He was listed as owning no real estate and $200 of personal estate.[12] His occupation was "farmer."[12] It was noted that Jemima could not read or write.[12]
