Gene was the youngest son of McAlpin Richardson and Emily Frances Ralls, born Aug 31, 1908. [1][2] His father, McAlpin Richardson passed away when Gene was 10 years (1918). [1]
His oldest brother, Alvino raised Gene, took care of his mother, Fanny and ran the ranch. Gene rode a horse from the cattle ranch in old Hansford to school each day (abt 5 miles) in Spearman, Texas after it formed.. Gene graduated from high school and taught himself the knowledge the rest of us learn in college, such as advanced Math, engineering, accounting, investing. [1][3]The 1930 U.S. Federal Census for Potter county shows Gene and his mother living in Amarillo, Texas where Gene was working as a time Checker for Zinc Smelting, renting a house on Virginia St. [4]
About 1931 Gene married Zora Hodges, in Amarillo, Texas, USA (marriage license was also filed in Hansford county, with J.E. Womble, Hansford marriages Bk 2, p 116. (Marriage Certificate on hand with daughter, Mary Richardson.[5]
Gene and his brothers Alvino "Rich", and James McAlpin Richardson continued living in Hansford County , Texas during the years of the Dust Bowl. He took the picture of the Black dirt storm approaching Spearman in 1935 which Mary Richardson has used on the Disasters Project|Subproject Dust Bowl, for WikiTree. It did cause asthma problems for one brother and Gene's mother.
Gene worked for the National Farm Loan Association, assisting farmers obtain loans, and investments, title searches, abstracts. He was accountant, kept the books for the citizens of Spearman, taxes. He made personal investments in the stock market. Soon he also worked with Humble Oil Company (pre-curser of ExxonMobil Oil Company) leasing mineral rights for this company, and buying mineral rights for himself.
Gene's brothers, Alvino and James Ralls Richardson had no children. His sisters had 1 child each. Gene and Zora Hodges Richardson, had only one child, Mary Richardson. Thus there was no one to carry on the Richardson family name in Spearman, Texas.
US Federal Census for 1940 reflects Gene married Zora Hodges. They are living in Spearman, Hansford, Texas, owning the home and had also lived there in 1935. As of 1940 he was working in an abstracting office in Spearman, Texas.[6]
Gene was a white collar worker. Although he owned land, Gene was not a farmer. He subcontracted the plowing and harvesting out. There was a building in our back yard, where excess grain was stored during the harvest season as well as piles of it in my mother's flower beds.. Soon Gene's profession was also accounting, title searches and tax returns for businesses and individuals, personal investments in the stock market. He was a representative of the National Farm Loan Association and purchased farm land. During his last 10 years of life, he was a land man for Humble Oil Company (now known as Exxon-Mobil Oil) He researched mineral rights and purchased oil/gas mineral rights from individuals in various counties of Texas, Comanche county, Oklahoma, and Colorado for Humble Oil company (known now as Exxon-Mobil oil).
His interests were fly fishing, creating and tying flies for fly- fishing, as well as pheasant, dove, and deer hunting. He was a Royal Arch Mason in Spearman, Texas, was Hansford Masonic Lodge, 1040, AF&AM. and a Shriner in Borger, Texas.
The picture shown on this page was Gene's photograph of the black dirt storm approaching his hometown in 1935 where most of Kansas blew into Spearman, Texas.
Gene passed away at a young age on 21 Dec 1955 in Spearman, Hansford, Texas. [7] Death certificate 60912 He is buried in Hansford County Cemetery in the Richardson family plot.[8] Find A Grave: Memorial #85272078
