Migration of Robert HAILS and Susannah RICHARDSON and Sarah BOZIER

1. Robert HAILS, born 28 Oct 1753 in Amelia Township, Orangeburgh, South Carolina; died Mar 1816 in Columbia, Richland County, South Carolina, son of Thomas HAILS and Eleanor MCNICHOLS. He married (1) [---] MCNICHOLS; (2) Susannah RICHARDSON, daughter of Richard RICHARDSON (COL) and Mary CANTEY; (3) [---] MARSHALL; (4) on 16 Apr 1799 in Charleston, South Carolina Sarah BOZIER, died abt 1865 in Alabama.

Notes for Robert HAILS: 1754 On Sunday June 9th in Amelia. Robert, son of Thomas Hails and Eleaner his wife deceased; born October 28th 1753. Susceptr. Alexander Tate, William and Elizabeth McNicols. (Rev. Giessendanner) 1772 Apr 8 survey 350 acres in St. Matthew's Parish. Married the widow, Mrs. Sarah McGinnie. Elected to replace John Linton as representative from St. Matthew's Parish on January 28, 1791. Elected Sheriff of Orangeburgh District on February 19, 1791 and was replaced in the General Assembly by William Sabb. Robert had several wives, died and was buried in Columbia SC in March 1816. He is listed in the 1790 census as married with wife and issue, with a separate entry for Sarah McNichols immediately beneath his. His widow is known by family memory to be Sarah Bozier Hails, a cousin, who migrated to central Alabama, near present day Montgomery, with Robert's son, Thomas Jefferson Hails circa 1817. Sarah died there in the last days of the Civil war. Robert was married to Sarah McGinne in Charleston, April 16, 1799 (ref: City Gazette and Daily Advertiser, Charleston 1799. The bride's name in the papers was noted, Sarah McGinne; the family memory is that she was a widow. Robert had four wives: 1st McNichols 2nd Susanna Richardson 3rd Miss Marshall 4th Sarah McGinney. He was a captain in the Revolution. Ref: DAR Patriot Index p 294. A Sarah McNichols was the wife of John McNichols, Elinor's younger brother, in Berkeley County, South Carolina, who died on April 18, 1771.

Notes for Sarah BOZIER: Widow is known by family memory to be Sarah Bozier Hails, a cousin, who migrated to central Alabama, near present day Montgomery, with Robert's son, Thomas Jefferson Hails circa 1817. Sarah died there in the last days of the Civil war.
