Biography

Ewell Richey was born about 1815 in Louisiana^[1][2] to Ewell Joel Richey and Rebecca Roberts.^{[citation needed]}

He appears on the 1840 census of Rapides Parish, Louisiana with the following household members:

males)10-15:2 ; 15-20:1 ; 50-60:1

females)5-10:2 ; 50-60:1

no slaves^[3]

He was the constable on the 1850 United States Federal census,^[1] but he is not listed with his wife and family in 1860 and he is listed as being in jail on another sheet.^{[citation needed]}

Ewell married Rebecca^[1][2] "Becky" Ellis^[4] and the couple had the following known children:

1. Elizabeth Richey was born about 1836 in Louisiana.^[1]
2. David Richey was born about 1842 in Louisiana.^[1]
3. Eveline Richey was born about 1844 in Louisiana.^[1]
4. Wade R. Richey was born about 1846 in Louisiana.^[1]
5. James Richey was born about 1847 in Louisiana.^[1] He died 03 May 1920 in Boyce, Rapides Parish, Louisiana.^[4]
6. Green Richey was born about 1850 in Louisiana.^[1]

Ewell served as a private in Company I of the 8th Louisiana Regiment in the Confederate States Army during the Civil War.^[5]

Ewell died sometime after 3 June 1880 when he was last seen on the Census.
