Biography

George Richey was named George Baker Richardson at birth. He was a song writer and piano player who moved to Nashville, Tennessee in the 1950's. He played the keyboard as backup for many well known singers such as Tommy James, Ernest Tubb, Kenny Rogers and Ringo Starr.

Tanya Tucker and Barbara Mandrell were among some of the artists who sang George Richey songs.

Richey co-wrote duets for George Jones and Tammy Wynette:

“Southern California” (1977) “We Loved it Away” (1974)

George Richey married Tammy Wynette in 1978. At that point, he turned most of his musical effort toward managing her career.
