Probable Conflation

There probably were two different contemporary girls named Zeruiah (or variant spellings) Richmond. One of them married Amaziah Richmond and is presumed to have died before December 1764. The other was born about 1740, married Jeremiah Tinkham in 1773, and died in 1815. One of these is the daughter of Josiah Richmond and Mehitabel Deane. [1]

Biography

Zermiah was born about 1740. She passed away in 1815. [2]

Zerviah Richmond of Middleborough, Massachusetts, was married to Jeremiah Tinkham of Middleborough on 2 November 1773. The marriage was entered in the vital records of both Taunton and Middlleborough, Massachusetts, in both cases suggesting that the marriage occurred in that town. Taunton Vital Records indicates that Zerviah was not previously married, stating: "Richmond, Zerviah, Miss, and Jeremiah Tinkham Jr., both of Middleboro, Nov. 2, 1773, C.R.4."[3] and Middleboro Vital Records suggest her as previously married, stating (in different transcriptions): "[A.D. 1773] November 2d I married Mr. Jeremiah Tinkham [Jr.] & Mrs. Zeriah Richmond Both of Middleborough," or "Septr. 11th 1773 Mr. Jeremiah Tinkham Junr. & Mrs. Zenirah Richmond both of Middleborough," but this difference is not meaningful because all women named in the Middleborough marriage records in that time period are identified as "Mrs."[4][5]

Molly, daughter of Jeremiah and Zeruiah Tinkham, was born in Middleborough on 3 August 1774.[6]

Mrs. Zermiah Tinkham died at the age of 75 in Athens, Windham County, Vermont, on 17 August 1815. Burial was in West Cemetery.[7]

It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Zeruiah by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Zeruiah:

From what I've found so far, her name seems to be Zerviah or Zeruiah, not Zermiah. Zerviah or Zeruiah seems to be a biblical name. Zermiah may be a mistaken transcription of Zeruiah.

I don't believe this woman was a daughter of Josiah Richmond. She is not named in his will, created in 1762. Additionally, the Barbour Collection has a record of Zerviah Richmond born in Sharon, Connecticut, in 1740: Barbour Collection, Sharon, page 100: Zerviah, d. Beniamin & Mary, b. May 23, 1740. The only other record in Sharon for that same family is the death of Mary, wife of Beniamin, on Dec. 7, 1743.
