In 1850, Merit Ryckman, a Baptist minister, his wife, Sally, and their family were living in Henderson County, North Carolina.[1]
On the 1860 US census for Tennessee Valley, Macon County, North Carolina, Phillip R. Rickman, a farmer, can be found at the age of 24, along with his wife and children. His presumed parents, Merrit and Sally Rickman, are on the same census a few pages after Phillip's household.
