DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

This section of the notes that begins: "Additional information on birth/christening from LDS File AFN:THHQ-30.[Riddell Family Group.ftw]

According to THE ANCIENT NORTHMEN, RIDDELL ANCESTRY, author unknown, as I only have excerpts of the book:" comes directly from the GT Ridlon's Riddell Genealogy: it largely unsourced and relies heavily on correspondence from family members and the chronology of the Riddell (Riddle) family is inaccurate. No persons listed in three generations of this book in the section "The Riddells of Ballaymeath" appear in the same place at the same time in any of the records.

A better choice is one written earlier: see William Pitt Riddell's Genealogy of the Riddell family.
