Biography
Mary Jane was born in 1861. Her birth was registered in Thornbury and she had no mother's maiden name listed, ie she was illegitimate. [1]
On 6 April 1882 Luke Riddle and Mary Jane Bennett married in Thornbury. Luke was a labourer as was his father, also Luke. Mary Jane's father was listed as John, a labourer. John Riddle was a witness. [2]
In 1901 Jane was listed as married, and living in Thornbury with 4 children. She had a lodger, George Longden and 3 of his sons. Jane was a Charwoman. [3] Luke died aged 43 in 1902.
On 26 March 1904, widower George Longden and widow Mary Jane Riddle married in Bristol. George was a Mason, as was his father James, Mary Jane's father was listed as James Bennett a labourer. [4] The couple had 2 children, Harry and Celia.
Mary Jane died aged 73 in 1935 and was buried in Thornbury on 12 January. [5]
