Willard Family Tree on Ancestry.com: George Washington Riddle 1819-1890 When George Washington Riddle was born in 1819 in Virginia, his father, John, was 59 and his mother, Nancy, was 29. He married Louisa Jane Thacker on July 17, 1853, in Cabell County, West Virginia. They had 10 children in 21 years. He died on September 29, 1890, in Nitro, West Virginia, at the age of 71, and was buried in Kanawha County, West Virginia.

Added June 25, 2016: George Riddle was born on 13 Dec 1818 in Rockbridge County to John Riddle and his second wife, Nancy Fantar.

George Riddle was living in Kanawha County, VA by 1850. He was single, living in the home of a non-family member, and was a “carpenter.” The statement by a sister of Nancy Riddle written in 1940 that he “was a cooper by trade” notwithstanding, the census records reflect his occupation as “carpenter” in 1850 and 1860 and as a farmer in 1870 and 1880.

He married Louisa Jane Thacker in Cabell County, VA on 17 Jul 1853. The couple returned to Rockbridge County for a few years and some of their children were born there, Nancy Ann included. The family moved to Kanawha County, WV by 1860 (per 1860 census), and their son James (Butch Willard’s ancestor) was born there in 1865.

By 1870, George, Louisa and their eight children, to include 14 year old Nancy and 5 year old James, were living in Kanawha County, WV. George’s occupation in 1870 was “farm laborer.” By 1880, he was a farmer, living next to Nancy and her husband Joseph H. Shawver.

George died 25 Sep 1890 in Nitro, WV. He is buried in the Coney and Dudding Cemetery in Nitro, WV, along his wife Louisa and their daughters Martha, Nancy A, Paulina (aka:Perlina), and Rachel and their husbands.
