Biography

Samuel Ridgeway was baptized to Joseph and Mary Ridgeway on 27 Nov 1709 in Clerkenwell, London. He married first Elizabeth Woodson on 2 Nov 1739 in Goochland, Virginia. Children: John B Sr., James B. Elizabeth died in 1741. He married second Mary Bellamy in 1742 in Virginia. Children: Elizabeth Hope, Richard, William, Thomas, Rosamond. Mary died in 1751. He married Third Phebe Seay on 1 May 1751 in Cumberland, Virginia. Children: Samuel. He died on 7 Dec 1781 in Goochland, Virginia.

From the The Bellamys of Early Virginia, Chapter 1, Page 7:

On July 1, 1742, John's daughter Mary Bellamy married one Samuel Ridgeway, a prosperous landholder from the area, whose father was probably an early colleague of Dr. Cabal's in England. Samuel Ridgeway acquired a thousand acres of land in Goochland County in 1738, and between 1745 and 1762 he acquired five more parcels containing 1400, 400, 235, 400 and 120 acres, respectively. Mary Bellamy, the daughter of a former indentured servant, seems to have married rather well, though perhaps by the time she reached marriageable age under the tutelage of Elizabeth Burke Cabell, she had become something of a lady.
