Johann was born on 6 September 1794 in Ferschweiler, Bitburg-Prum, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany. He was the son of Johann Ries and Elisabeth (Dauwen) Ries.[1]

When Johann was 33 he married Katrina Lacafe on 18 February 1828 in Ernzen, Germany. The couple had 7 children: Johann (John) George Ries, Barbara Ries, Michael Ries, Peter Ries, Valentin Ries, Susanna Ries and Katherina Ries.[2]

When Johann was 53 he married Susanna LaCafe on 11 November 1847 in Ferschweiler, Bitburg-Prum, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany. The couple had 5 children: Katharina Ries, Barbara Ries, John Ries, Mary Ries and Michael Ries.[2]

Johann departed Antwerp, Belgium and arrived in New York on 22 May 1856.[1]

Ries-1440 and Ries-138 appear to represent the same person because: Hi pms, please could you check out these two profiles. They seem to be duplicates, as they have the same date of death, and seem to have the same son Johann/John. The wife Susanna seems to be the same too. I notice that Ries-138 has two birth dates in the biography, one similar to the birth date on Ries-1440. Thanks for reviewing.
