James "Jonas" Riggs was born December 14, 1778 in Pleasant Valley, Ohio, Virginia. He died in 1860 in Windy Gap, Aleppo Township, Greene, Pennsylvania.
Son of Reverend William M. Riggs (1750-1833) and Mary Dowden (1755-1819).
1st marriage: James Riggs married Roseanna Elizabeth Whitlatch in 1806 in Washington, Pennsylvania.
2nd marriage: James Riggs married Phoebe Cooper c. 1827 in Virginia.
1850 United States Census, Marshall, Virginia: James Riggs is head of household, a farmer age 72, with wife Phoebe Riggs age 65, and daughter Elizabeth Riggs age 14.
1860 United States Census, Marshall, Virginia: James Riggs is head of household, a farmer age 81, with wife Phoebe Riggs age 75.
