Biography

Abraham Riggs Sr. was born about 1717. He married Mary Borde/Bird between 1751 and 1757. Mary is the daughter of Daniel and Margaret Bird. Daniel Bird left a nuncupative will in March 1751 (probated 1758) in which he names his daughter Mary not yet married. Researchers purport that Mary Riggs was previously married to Billings Britt because Abraham came into possession of the Britt estate in1759. Abraham and Mary had children: William d. 1834, George d. 1834, Abraham Jr. b. 1757, Esther d. 1783, and Leah, b.1772. Abraham Riggs Sr. died about 1785 when his widow, Mary, appears on the tax list for that year. Mary died before 1795 when she disappears from the tax lists.

Note:

He made a will on 24 September 1783 at Accomack Co, VA [Stratton Nottingham, Wills and Administrations of Accomack County, Virginia, 1663-1800.]

Will of Abraham Riggs (page 165 from Wills and Administration by Stratton Nottingham 24 September 1783, proved in court August 3, 1783. To wife, Mary, whole estate during her widowhood. To son, George, one shilling, to four children, William, Abraham, Esther, and Leah Riggs, all my land and rest of estate to be divided equally between them. Executor, wife Mary, Order of probate, William Riggs, heir-at=law to testator. Witnesses: Solomon Jackson, Benjamin Royall, John Tilshett

His mother Naomi has a birth date of 1708, meaning she would have been nine when Abraham was born. Thus, there is some incorrect information that will need to be adjusted.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Abraham by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Abraham:

Riggs-235 and Riggs-579 appear to represent the same person because: Many details are similar. I've already proposed merging related records of each, Riggs-80 and Riggs-2714.

My mother's maiden name was Riggs and I have traced the family to here and I am currently awaiting results from Ancestry DNA. Will those results confirm that I am related to this man?

Riggs-2715 and Riggs-579 appear to represent the same person because: I expect these are duplicates despite differences in dates. These should not delay merging if both represent the same person. Alternative dates can be listed in profile until differences are resolved.
