Dorothy is said to have been born about 1711 or 1713.[1]
Dorothy Riggs Breese died 23 nov 1803 in Basking Ridge, Somerset, New Jersey.[1]
Research Notes
Robert Charles Anderson, FASG, and Alvy Ray Smith, FASG, worked together on the Riggs family for close to 8 years, coming to the conclusion that the series of Edward (great) fathers is not yet proven, and Smith concludes that Dorothy is a putative daughter of Edward, not yet proven.[2] Anderson and Smith published a paper together in The Genealogist 23:131-73 (The Genealogy of Edward Riggs of Roxbury, Massachusetts, Revisited) in which Edward Riggs of New Jersey is not yet proven to be a direct descendant of Edward Riggs of Roxbury, Massachusetts.
Second, Smith cannot find a confirmation that Edward Riggs (1674) married Aphia Stoughton or that Aphia existed.
In particular, Alvy Smith considers the following family histories to be problematical, with errors:[2]
Wallace, Riggs Genealogy
Crayon, Riggs Family Genealogy
Bassett, Seymour Past and Present
In all, the Riggs family of New Jersey is problematic.
