Daughters of the American Revolution
Joseph Riggs is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A096662.
Connecticut.

Captain Joseph RIGGS was born the 13th of Feb 1709 to John and Elizabeth (Tomlinson) Riggs in Derby, Connecticut.[1][2][3] He was the only brother to his three sisters. Joseph married Mabel JOHNSON on 20 Feb 1740 in Derby, New Haven, CT[4][5][6][7] and started his own family. Hannah was the first born, arriving in December of 1740.[8] Joseph and Mabel were then blessed with three sons: John,[9][10] Joseph,[11][12] and Samuel.[13][14] Mabel was the last to be born,[15][16][17] almost twenty years after her sister Hannah.

Old Document.

The year that Mabel was born, Joseph Riggs appeared in the Muster Rolls in Connecticut.[18] When the American Revolution started Joseph again showed his sense of duty to his community. The men of Derby went on record supporting the Continental Army in 1777 by voting to sell supplies to the Army, and to hold them in esteem.[19] Derby records show that Joseph upheld his intentions, as he was listed as being a member of the Committee of Inspection, as well as on the Committee to Furnish Clothing for Soldiers.[20]

Joseph passed away the 31st of Mar 1792,[21][22] at the age of eighty-two. He was laid to rest in the Old Derby Uptown Burying Ground in Derby, New Haven, Connecticut.[23][24][25][26][27][28] Joseph was predeceased by his son Samuel Riggs in 1766.[29] He was survived by his wife Mabel, his daughters Hannah (Riggs)(French) Hawkins[30] and Mabel Riggs,[31] and his sons John Riggs[32] and Captain Joseph Riggs, Junior.[33]
