Hi Gillian. Thank you for your message. I have been meaning to try again to fix Thomas's entry. My sister who is active on myheritage and ancestory did a dna test only recently that confirmed that Thomas's mother is Mary Boag not Ann Allan or Janet Horn. Unfortunately someone else manages Thomas's parents entry and will not reply to my messages. Thomas emigrated to NZ in 1875 alone, fathering my grandfather in 1897 and my elderly aunt is still alive but knows very little of Thomas's early life. There has been much confusion going back to the 1819 census (or was it 1821?) when there was two James Ritchie's living in the same street in Stevenston, one married to a Jean the other to a Janet. I am almost cetain they are cousins. I have seen a birth record for a Thomas to a James Ritchie and a Mary (also known as Marion) Boag. What is your relationship? If you do find out any more details you can share to my email address [email address removed] The records are very sketchy for this generation of the family. He did have siblings but beyond that I know very little. Old Tom as he was known was a plumber for the railways in Invercargill and was quite the inventor having some patents involving his job. It intrigues me why he came out at the age of 22 alone, we will never know probably. Did he had a family back in Scotland? We know he was extremely fertile if I can use that term to descibe a male. You know what I mean though. He had 22 children once in NZ, Hannah his first wife already had a daughter before he arrived. Many thanks Mark

Hi Mark, I've removed Thomas Ritchie as a duplicate spouse of your Thomas Ritchie's wives, and also removed the death date in New Zealand of that other profile. From the censuses, he is a different Thomas Ritchie, and lived in Scotland at least until 1891. I'm still sorting out the parents. It seems that there are a few families confused, all with James Ritchie as father. If it's ok with you, I'll probably disconnect this profile from James Ritchie-1192 and his wife, as it doesn't look like it was a profile that you originally created. Then you can start again with the correct parents of Thomas once you are ready. What do you think? Gillian

Hi Mark

Thank you for all the information. I wondered if your sister might be willing to consider placing her DNA profile on Wikitree so that I could see what degree of autosomal DNA matching their is with my profile which is on Wikitree as spittle88. My understanding is that Thomas Ritchie, born 1852 and died 1942, is my great grandfather as indicated by Margaret Herring, a descendent of Thomas's daughter Annie Friend Stimpson being a close DNA match (1st to 3rd cousin). Hi Mark, I'm trying to sort out the duplicate of this profiles with Thomas Ritchie. Do you have a source for Thomas's birth on 18 Feb 1852 at Airdrie? I've been struggling to find a relevant birth record or census records for the 1861 and 1871 censuses. Do you know what his occupation was? Thanks, Gillian
