Served in WW1 as a L/Corp (8/91) in the Otago Infantry Battalion, wounded at Gallipoli within the first two weeks after the landing (4th May 1915), he was shot in both legs. He spent time on a hospital ship, the Devanha then sent to Cairo and treated at the Military Hospital Citadel. He was discharged as medically unfit and invalided back to NZ on 9 June 1915. Total service 1 year and 299 days, 273 days overseas, mainly Egypt.
At enlistment he declared he was a labourer with the last employer being A Thompson of Outram.
He was 5' 6", 137 lb, fair complexion, blue eyes, fair hair.
He married Kathleen Allen Davies in 1916.
In died in Palmerston North in 1968, listed next of kin then as Mr N Ritchie, Dannevirke.
