Ella Gertrude Ritchie was born in Boston on 01 October 1868, to James and Harriet (Lunt) Ritchie.[1]
She was married in Boston on 03 November 1892 to Richard Henry Keen when she was age 22.
[2] They had two children born in 1893 and 1897.
In 1898, not long after her second child was born, Ella was declared insane and incapable of caring for herself. Guardianship was appointed to her father, James A. Ritchie. She was divorced from her husband about 1903. She was a patient in the Danvers State Hospital from at least 1900 until 1920, when she died there of enteritis at age 51.[3]
Stories passed down from a family member (now deceased) suggested that she had been in a TB Sanitorium. She is buried in Everett, MA, according to her death record.
Her children did not remain with their father, but were sent to board with a family named Barber in Townsend, MA. Her ex-husband remarried, and had two more children with his second wife. [4]
