Joseph Rivard was born in Batiscan, where his parents Julien Rivard and Élisabeth Thunes were residents, around 1704. He was engagé ouest (hired to go West on contract) on 23 July 1726 and on 13 May 1727.[1]
Marriage
Joseph Rivard, son of Julien Rivard and of Élisabeth Tunes, married Marie Toutan, daughter of the late Nicolas Toutan and of Marie Anne Roux, on 10 Nov 1732 in Champlain.[2][3] Together, they had the following (known) children[4]:

Marie Anne, n. 10 November 1739, Yamachiche (Ste-Anne), d. 12 July 1741, Yamachiche (Ste-Anne), (Died Young)
Augustin, n. 11 March 1743, Yamachiche (Ste-Anne), d. 5 May 1798, Yamachiche (Ste-Anne); he married Marie Françoise GAUTHIER on 14 January 1765 at La Visitation-de-la-Pointe-du-Lac
6 known children from the marriage, 2 known to die young and 4 to marry (2 of them twice)[5]
Death
Joseph Rivard dit Dufresne, widower of Josephe Toutant, died on 24 Jan 1793 and was buried on the 25th in Yamachiche, the record giving him 84 years of age.[6][7]
