Biography

Samuel was born in 1816. According to "Memoirs of Lucas County and the City of Toldeo," Samuel S. Roach was one of the first settlers of Providence Township along with Amos Perry, John Place, Leonard Kuntz, and James White, to settle in the interior of the township. Until then no settled more than one mile from the Maumee River. They followed Van Rensselaer Crosby who located on section 16 of Providence Township in 1840. In 1841, Samuel was elected to serve as township trustee and over the years would serve in that capacity several times as well as Providence Township treasurer and clerk. [1]
