Biography

Mary Anne (Roach) Knobel was born in 1881 in Picola, Victoria, Australia, daughter of Henry Roach (~1850 - 1936) and Mary Jane (Kelly) Roach (~1856 - 1940).

Mary married George Knobel (1874 - 1950). Their children were:

  1. Frederick William Knobel (1901 - 1963)
  2. Mary (Knobel) Richardson (1902 - )
  3. Margaret (Knobel) Easton (1906 - )
  4. Catherine (Knobel) Harris (1908 - )
  5. George Knobel (~1922 - 1931).

Mary died on 20 May 1941 in Wollongong, New South Wales aged ~59.

At a Private hospital in Wollongong on Tuesday last the death occurred of Mrs. Mary Ann Knobel, beloved wife of George Knobel, of Robson Road, Keiraville (the well known builder and contractor) , and dear mother of Frederick, Mary (Mrs. A. Richardson), William, Margaret (Mrs. ,W. Easton), Catherine (Kit, Mrs. J. Harris, of Queensland) and George (deceased) . The late Mrs. Knobel who was in her 59th year, was the possessor of neighbourly qualities which endearved her to a wide circle of friends. The sympathy of the community is extended to the bereaved husband and family. On Thursday afternoon the remains were laid to rest in the Church of England Cemetery, Wollongong. [1]
