Biography

Jonathon grew up in Georgia of Cherokee descent. He was a private in Captain Hamilton's Company of the Georgia Militia in the War of 1812. He lived in Sumter for a while and was a captain of a riverboat on the Trinity River before moving to Angelina County, Texas and founding May Apple Springs settlement that later became Apple Springs, Texas. His father or grandfather may have been a Revolutionary War patriot from Delaware named Samuel Roach but that is not certain at this writing.

Jonathan Roach married Mary Boon soon after the death of Mary E. Taylor
