Biography

Robert Robb was born in Nigg, Kincardineshire, Scotland in 1874, the 9th child of Alexander Robb's 14 children. His mother, Jane Ritchie, died in 1876 when he was two years old. His father married Ann Bain in 1880, when Robert was 7.

Robert married Mary Rothnie in Aberdeen (St Nicholas) in 1899^[2]. Mary had a daughter, Elspeth, from a previous marriage, and in 1906 Robert, Mary and Elspeth emigrated to Ontario, Canada.

In the 1911 Canadian Census, William Austin, printer, was single, aged 27. No sign of Robert, Mary or Elspeth.

In the 1920 Canadian Census, in Ottawa, Robert and Mary are living with Mary's daughter Elspeth, who has married printer, William Austin. They were living at 269 Cathcart St, near the corner of King Edward Ave. (You can see an old photo here^[3]).

Robert joined the local police in Ottawa, where he was a Constable.

He fought in World War I in the 13th Battalion, C.E.F.

He was medically discharged in 1916.

5 October 1922 he joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

7 January 1924 he was fined $1 for "Disobedience" by Supt Belcher.

27 February 1939 he died in the service, after a short illness.

Cst Robert Robb (Reg. No. 9886), (the only Robb in the RCMP Obituaries), died in April 1939 (it was actually in February), (Page 293)^[5].
