Biography

James Robb was baptised on the 28 June 1786 at Blackhill, Airlie, Forfarshire Scotland. His parents were David Robb and Betty Hardy[1].

James married Ann Rattray on the 16 October 1813 at Monikie, Forfarshire, Scotland. [2]

He married Anne Rattray in October of 1813 in Monikie, Angus, Scotland[4].

It is speculated that he came down from Airlie to find work in Monikie. In the first few baptisms of his children, he is listed as a weaver at Bankhead. Starting about 1823, he is a tenant at Bankhead and he is listed as a farmer in the 1841 and 1851 censuses. In the 1841 Census, a farmer at Bankhead, Monikie. (Is that Euphemia his mother Elizabeth?)

In the 1851 census James is a widow, farmer of 40 acres, at Bankhead, Monikie, employing two servants.

Anne died between 1835 and 1841 in Bankhead, Monikie, Angus, Scotland, after having borne ten children. All of their children were born in Scotland. Two of the children died in Scotland before 1850.

His adult children emigrated to the U.S. in the 1850's and he also came over, probably around the same time.

James was living with his son David when he died in 1877 at the age of 90. He is buried in Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt, IA, Block 7, lot 28.

Robb-597 and Robb-2072 appear to represent the same person because: These look very much the same. The only thing is the unsourced suggestion of death in Scotland of the one.
