Biography

Thomas Robbins birth and parentage are unknown or unproven. (See Research Notes.) He was born, probably England, about 1618,[1] and was still living in 1681.[2]

He married first, by 30 November 1654,[3] Isabel (_____) Spencer, the widow of Michael Spencer. Isabel died at Salem, 9 October 1674.[4]

He married second, at Salem, 11 March 1674/5 Mary (_____) (Gault) Bishop, the widow of both William Gault and Richard Bishop.[5]

Research Notes

Note. Thomas Robbins left a will,[citation needed] I suggest a reading of his will to those who wish to edit the profiles of Michael Spencer 1611-1653 and his second wife Isabel ____ Spencer, Robbins birth est 1615-death 9 Oct 1674. Also, please look at the images in their respective profiles, their dna record, and list of children. [?Stone-2742 - 2018]

Prior Version/Birth. A prior version of this profile reported he was born at Theddingsworth, Leicestershire, England, 1619, the son of a John Robbins? (WikiTree has otherwise referred to this John Robbins as "John Richard Robbins, Sr.") Such relationship was severed in 2022 with comment, lacks the array of supporting historical records and analysis.

Prior Version/Death. (1) A prior version of this profile reported he died at Duxbury, Plymouth, Massachusetts ... 1653. (2) A prior version of this profile reported he was still living in 1718.

Son George not supported. Once or more, George Robbins (abt.1640-1689) has been reported a son of this Thomas. From the George Robbins profile, "The parents that had been listed for him here are Thomas Robbins and Isabel Croad. They have been removed from the data fields until such time as quality sources are found to support them as his parents." This "Isabel Croad"/Croad 44 is otherwise Isabel ____ (Spencer) (Robbins). Thomas Robbins and Isabel were not married in 1640, when this George was reportedly born "Chelmsford, Middlesex, Massachusetts."

Miscellaneous. Donald Lines Jacobus, "The Four Spencer Brothers," The American Genealogist, 27 (1951):79-87, 161-185; in particular, entry p. 163 (AmericaAncestors), reports Michael (8) Spencer, m. "Isabel ____" (d. 9 October 1674); she had married again to Thomas Robbins "a carpenter of Salem, born about 1618, living in 1681. Robbins married second, 11 Mar. 1674/5, Mary (Gould) [_sic_], widow of Richard Bishop." [Note: Mary was the widow of William Gault (d. 1659, Salem; Essex Probate 2:433) at the time of her marriage to Richard Bishop (Vital Records of Salem, Massachusetts to the end of the year 1849 provide for the marriage of Richard Bishop and, "Wid. ---- Golt, 22: 5m: 1660"). Robert Charles Anderson reported her maiden name as unknown, see Great Migration-Immigrants to New England, 1634-1635, Volume I, A-B (1999), 309 (AmericanAncestors). Her marriage contract with Bishop is part of Essex Quarterly Court record 9:484 ]

May we have a reliable source for the now attached father? --Gene

Edited to add. Have posted the comment below to the profile of John Richard Robbins Sr. (1583-abt.1680).

I'm not finding the assortment of records and analysis that would support a link as the father, even uncertain, of the early New England Immigrant, Thomas Robbins.
I plan to sever that association.
