Biography

Flora Loudeska Robbins was born on 2 October 1871 to Joseph Robbins and Edith Matilda Ivey in Randolph County, North Carolina.[1]

In 1880, Flora’s family lived in the township of Randleman Mills in Randolph County, North Carolina. Nine year old Flora was the youngest child and could read and write. Two of her sisters - Martha, 13, and Matilda, 15 - were working the mill and couldn’t read or write. Mary, 24, the oldest sibling still at home, was not working outside of the home and was able to read and write. Flora’s father, Joseph, was a day laborer and her mother, Edith, kept house.[2]

She married Julius Woolen Parsons on 15 December 1892, in Randolph County.[3]

By 1900, Flora had been married for eight years and was the mother of three children - all living. The family was living in Randleman, Randolph County, North Carolina. Flora was not working outside of the home.[4]

Julius, Flora, and their six kids were living on Lineberry Street in Randleman, Randolph County, North Carolina, in 1910. Julius worked for a soft drink manufacturing company and Flora did not work outside of the home.[5]

By 1920, two of Julius and Flora’s kids, Guy and Howgil, had moved out on their own. The family was still living in Randleman. Julius was working as a beamer at the cotton mill and Flora was not working outside of the home. [6]

In 1930, Julius and Flora were living on East Greensboro Street in Randleman. He worked as a traveling sewing machine salesman and Flora did not work outside of the home. Four of their six grown children were living at home: Kate, Joseph, Alpheus, and James, as well as Joseph’s daughter, Kumie.[7]

Flora’s husband died on 3 June 1937 in Randleman, North Carolina, and was laid to rest in Mt. Lebanon Methodist Cemetery on 3 June 1937. [8]

In 1940, Flora was living on Lineberry Street in Randleman with her son, Guy, and daughter, Kate. She indicated the family was living at the same location in 1935. Guy was working as a flag man for the railroad and Kate was working in a silk mill. Flora’s highest level of education was third grade.[9]

Flora passed away at the age of 94 on 22 Dec 1965 in her home at 106 River Drive in Randleman, North Carolina. She was laid to rest on Christmas Eve, 1965, in Mt. Lebanon Methodist Church Cemetery, about one-quarter mile from her home. [10] Nearly nine months earlier, her eldest child, Guy Edward Parsons, had passed away.
