Biography

Thomas Harvey Robbins was born November, 1850, in Alabama. Thomas is the son of Thomas B. Robbins and Nancy A. Youngblood. 1850 Census done in Dec 1850, he was 1 month old. [1] 1900 Census states birthdate was May 1851 [2] Gravestone has May 5 1848. [3]

Thomas, age 1 month, appears in the 1850 Federal census in the household of his father, Thomas B. Robbins, in Jefferson Co., Alabama. Thomas B. Robbins' household was enumerated in December, 1850. Thomas' age given as 1 month would mean he was born in November, 1850. NOTE: that Thomas' tombstone gives his date of birth as May 5, 1848; and his date of birth is given as May 1851 in the 1900 Federal census.[1]

Thomas, age 10 appears in the 1860 in Federal census in Jefferson county, Alabama in the household of his father, Thomas B. Robbins.[4]

Thomas was named the executor of his mother's will.

Thomas married Mary Ann Robertson on the 7th of October 1872 in Jefferson county, Alabama.[5]

Thomas appears in the 1880 Federal census as head of household, in Jefferson County, Alabama. The household had the following children listed: Melissa C. Robbins, age 6; Martha A. Robbins, age 4; Mary M. Robbins, age 2; and Harvey T. Robbins, age 1.[6]

Thomas Robbins and Mary Ann Robertson Robbins divorced before February, 1898. Thomas Robbins married his second wife, the widow Paralee Hulsey Ward, on February 28, 1898, in Jefferson County, Alabama.[7]

Thomas and Paralee Robbins were the parents of Kathryn Robbins born July 1899; and Gevena Whitt Robbins, who went by the name G. Whitt Robbins, born 1901 and died 16 November, 1966, Jefferson County, Alabama.[2]

Thomas died May 17, 1904, in Jefferson County, Alabama.[3]

Research Notes

Nancy E. Robbins, born 1854, and Robert Maxwell Robbins born 1860, were incorrectly listed as the children of Thomas H. Robbins and Mary A. Robertson Robbins. Nancy E. Robbins and Robert Maxwell Robbins are the sister and brother of Thomas H. Robbins. See the "United States Census, 1860" [4]
