John was born 31 October 1826 in Wales to Robert and Sarah (Williams) Roberts. By the middle of the 19th Century John immigrated to the United States and settled in a Welsh speaking community named Blaen Dyffryn in LaCrosse County, Wisconsin (now Monroe County).[1] There he married Sarah Williams. Their family, all born at Blaen Dyffryn included:
Robert R. Roberts b. 10 June 1856 d. 10 April 1914
Eleanor (Nell) Roberts b. 10 February 1858 d. 17 October 1939
Stephen J. Roberts b. 15 March 1860 d. 31 December 1934

William Roberts b. 10 September 1864 d. November 1918
Margaret (Maggie) Roberts b. 21 March 1867 d. 3 June 1946

He died 14 April, 1873. [1] The genealogy done by Virginia Drew places his death in Blaen Dyffryn. He is shown living in Monroe County with his family in the 1860 and 1870 Censuses. [2][3] Both Censuses identify John Roberts as Welsh. His father Robert is shown living in his household at the 1870 Census and was clearly part of a family migration.
