Biography

Margaret was born on the 17th of December 1857 at Pandy, Llanuwchllyn. Her birth was registered in Bala and her GRO birth certificate reads: "33 / Seventeenth December 1857 Pandy, Llanuwchllyn. / Margaret / Girl / William Roberts / Sarah Roberts formerly Evans / Labourer / X the Mark of Sarah Roberts, Mother, Pandy, Llanuchllyn. / Fourth January 1858 / John Morris, Registrar."

On the census of 1861 Margaret is listed as granddaughter of John and Margaret Evans of Ty'n y bant, LLanuwchllyn. Also at the house that day were Sarah Roberts (her mother?) and Catherine Roberts (her sister?), both listed as visitors, suggesting that Margaret was living there full-time. There also appears an infant John Jones (1). Was he a half-brother to Margaret and Catherine?

In 1871 the census shows a Margaret Roberts (13) as a servant to Thomas and Elizabeth Jones at Deildref, Penant Ellin, Llanuwchllyn.

At some point before the next census Margaret married Hugh Roberts of Llangwm. The 1881 census shows Margaret, along with children Margaret (2) and Jane (0) visiting her husband's parents - Cadwaladr and Jane Roberts- at Garthmeilio Villa in Llangwm, whilst Hugh is home alone at 2 Mount St., Llandderfel.

In 1891 Margaret and Hugh are living at Tynddol Cottages, Llandderfel. The children included on the census are Jane Alice (10), Sarah Yets (8), Mary Catherine (5), and Hugh William (2).

In 1893 daughter Ann-Ellen was born in Llandderfel.

School records from Penrhyncoch show that some of the children started school there in November 1896, and that the family was living at Tanycoed.

The 1901 shows the family living at Tancoed, Parsel Canol. The children include: Jane Alice (20), Ann Ellen (7), Cadwaladr (3), and Robert William (1).

Sometime after this the family moved to Panteg and the 1911 census shows Hugh (54), Margaret (53), Cadwaladr Lloyd (13), and Robert William (11).

Margaret died on March the 9th, 1927, aged 69 and is buried at St. John's Church, Penrhyncoch.
