Biography

William was baptised 18th December 1831 at Llanfachreth, near Dolgellau in Merionethshire.

William married Sarah Evans of Ty'n y pant, Llanuwchllyn. They had two daughters ,Margaret and Ellen Jane. Margaret was born in 1858 and the family lived at Bryncoedifor, near Dolgellau. Ellen Jane was born about three years later.

William was buried on November 28, 1862 in Merionethshire. Age was given as 31 and abode as Bryncoedifor. He may have been buried in St. Paul's church, next door to Bryncoedifor. His death was registered at Dolgellau and his Death Certificate reads: "Twenty fifth November 1862, Bryncoedifor, Dolgelley / William Roberts / Male / 30 years / Seaman Merchant Service / Consumption - not Certified / X The mark of Mary Jones. In Attendance Cefncreuan uchaf, Dolgelley / Twenty Sixth November 1862 / John Jones, Registrar."

William should be on the census for 1861, but I have yet to find him there.

Family information states that Sarah left for New Zealand around 1863, taking her second daughter with her and leaving Margaret at Ty'n y pant.
