Biography

Worked most of his career as a machinest for Budd Manufacturing in Philadelphia. Died of throat cancer in 1968 just after his 63rd birthday.

Souderton Independent John J. Roberts, 62, of 5011 South West Avenue, Beach Haven Inlet, New Jersey, formerly of Chalfont, died last night in the Doylestown Hospital, following an illness of 18 months. He was the husband of Gertrude (Pearce) Roberts. Born in Gloucester City, New Jersey, the deceased was the son of the late John S. and Mary A. (Magee) Roberts. Mr. and Mrs. Roberts lived in Chalfont for 13 years and moved to their summer home at Beach Haven Inlet in June 1967. Mr. Roberts was a millwright attached to the maintenance department of the Budd Company, Philadelphia, for 33 years until ill health forced him to retire in the fall of 1966. A member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, Hilltown, Mr. Roberts was also a member of the United Auto Workers of America, Local 813. In addition to his wife, Gertrude P., he is survived by four sons: John David Roberts, Chalfont; Kenneth P. Roberts, Warrington; Donald J. Roberts, Old Bridge, New Jersey; Roy E. Roberts, Hatfield; seven grandchildren; one sister, Florence M., wife of William H. Clark, Hatfield
