Biography

John "Johnny Cake" Roberts was born in December 1803 in Harbour Island, Bahamas to John Roberts and Ann Bethel Roberts.

He married Sarah/Sariah Ann Curry, daughter of Richard Curry and Catherine "Caty" Weatherford, 22 October 1829, in Harbour Island. The couple had children - among them Sarah Ann, John, Alexander, Frederick, James, Martha Jane, Mary Elizabeth, and Joseph Roberts.

"Johnny Cake" and Sarah Ann emigrated to Key West in the mid-1840s. Their daughter, Mary Elizabeth, and son, Joseph, were born, in fact, in Florida.

John Roberts, mariner, passed away sometime after the 1870 US Census was taken in Key West, Florida.
