My Aunt Henna was one of the first career women I knew. She loved her work as a teacher. She had a terrific sense of humor and never-ending energy. My family usually traveled to Girard, Kansas, to visit Aunt Henna and "Grammie" at Christmas. We opened presents on Christmas Eve, supposedly because Aunt Henna absolutely could not wait until the next morning. I opened my birthday presents on Christmas morning. I didn't realize until I was grown that Henna had engineered this schedule so that I could celebrate my birthday (Dec. 25) as a personally special day.
