Col. RIchard Roberts was from Bolton, Massachusetts. [citation needed]
He married Sybil Goodenow on February 9, 1765. [1] She was born May 31, 1747. [2]
He came to Marlborough to reside in 1768 and located where Hamilton Parker later lived in Troy. Afterwards he lived in several places in town and at the time of his death he lived in the later residence of C. H. Caldwell.
Col. Roberts was a man of ordinary height but corpulent, with a stern appearance but a benevolent disposition. He had greater wealth than his neighbors and was able to assist the poor in many ways. He was a man of untiring energy.
He died in his chaise, September 10, 1801, while returning from Keen and was found by the side of the road near the village of South Keene. He is buried at Meeting House Cemetery in Marlborough. [3]
